In the Summer months, the Club suspends our dinner service on the first Saturday of each month so we can have a "Back-Yard BBQ".  Using our large grill and a hot wood fire, members bring their own cuts and flavored meats and vegetables for grilling.  From the time around the grill and around the table, we enjoy soft music and conversation. 

Most everyone brings a side dish, and our spontaneous potlucks are an adventure.  For the remainder of 2023, we will have a BBQ on September 2nd and October 7th. 

Walk-in guests are welcome, but please call the preceding week (702-201-1448) with a short message about your side dish plans.  Welkommen!

The 2024 ISPA Las Vegas Skat Tournament is scheduled for Friday, January 19th, through Sunday, January 21st.  The competition will feature players from North America and Europe.  Registration is currently open with the Santa Monica Skat Club ([email protected]).   Additional posts will provide more detail over the next three months.  The German-American Social Club of Nevada welcomes the organizers of this annual tournament and the players that will compete.

The German American Social Club has members with great longevity.  These members have committed themselves to the good work of our club, and they have provided support to our mission of sharing German Culture in the Las Vegas Valley.  The organization recognizes such efforts with service pins that acknowledge the years completed.  

On August 19th, the President and Membership Chair will present pins to those with five or more years of service (in 5 year increments).  The club is strong and healthy due to committed members, that persistently add to the skills, and labor, required for our annual programs.

The list of members to be recognized includes those members that achieved 5 years of incremental service in 2022 or 2023.  The member names for each year can be found in the August newsletter posted on this website.

The membership has embraced the Backyard Bar-B-Ques scheduled on the first Saturday of each month.  The grilling nights replace our normal "full service" dinners and allow the members the fun of cooking on our huge grill.  We always ask that diners bring a side dish for 8-10 other guests.  This has allowed us some wonderful, simple meals.  Reservations are still needed for these special meals, but WALK-INs are very easy to accommodate, even at the last minute. 

Members of the German American club met on Wednesday, July 19th, to begin planning our support for  Oktoberfest events in the Las Vegas valley.  These events are scheduled from late-September to mid-October.  

About 17 members were present to discuss the dates, events, expenses, menus and workers for each activity.  There was a positive response as the President outlined each event, and the activities that need support.  Several members have already volunteered to lead these special "Booths" or activities.

The planning committee will meet most Wednesdays at 6:00 pm thru September 27th, 2023, to discuss next steps and to receive progress reports from our Booth leaders.  We will also be signing up activity volunteers, and cooks, for these events.

Interested people are welcomed to attend the weekly planning sessions, which follow our Open House hours.  Membership is not required.  Please call 702-201-1448 to leave a question, or just join us at the meetings.

The German American Social Club of Nevada is an association of people committed to the preservation and sharing of this culture.  To welcome interested people, the club is always happy to receive phone calls, emails, and walk-in guests. 

To share the history of our club, and to foster visits, the Clubhouse is open each Wednesday, from 4:30-6:30. Since July, 2023, this "Open House" event has increased our walk-in traffic, and many guests have elected to join our association.  

Visitors often brought stories of their family, or their own visits to Germany.  Each is a fun tale, and we often share laughter as we learn about their experiences.  If you have questions, or if would just like to tour our traditional decorated Hall, please call 702-201-1448, or stop in at the next Wednesday "Open House".

Mike Sipes has prepared a reception and remembrance for Erika Gries, on Sunday, July 23, @ 2:00.  Erika brought life and laughter to the Club.  Several speakers will share stories of her care, kindness and humor.  There will be photos sharing the many days, and events, that Erika brought both life and fun.   Everyone is welcome and a hosted reception will follow.    

July 1st, 2023, will see a large expansion in the number of days that members can visit the Club.  The Club, and the bar, will be open every Wednesday, from 4:30-6:30, to receive members after work, and to encourage visitors.  Our "Open House" Wednesdays are intended to provide quiet hours that allow visitors to tour our Hall, learn about our 50+ year history, and to consider whether they might like to join us in celebrating, and preserving, German Culture in southern Nevada.  

The Club will also open each Sunday morning to quietly enjoy Silvia Brunn's live radio program, "The Las Vegas German Show".   The "German Music Sundays" are a simple time to chat, share lite food, laugh with each other, and enjoy traditional music in the wonderful ambiance of our Hall.   We can listen as Silvia shares personal celebrations, Club news, and the current good work of our many member volunteers.  Hooting, and teasing these announcements seems appropriate!  The bar will be open for your Sunday morning "reinforcement" of "Mimosas" and "Bloody Marys."

Members will also have opportunities for more live entertainment as our Tuesday nights expand. 

For all of the above, we encourage everyone to keep the Club newsletter and calendar on the 'Fridge.  Of course, we will need more member volunteers and more trained bartenders to sustain these increased Club hours.  Can you help?
