ABOUT THE SHOW:
"German Radio in Las Vegas has been around since Mother's Day 1973, and was started by one of the early members of the German-American Club, Christine Stanley. She called the program "Glocken der Heimat" - Bells of Home. After about a year, Gerhard Kinzel, another Club Member, hosted the show on and off for several years and some of those years on PBS via UNLV. After Gerhard discontinued hosting the German Radio, there were several years without a program at all. In the early part of the millenium, a group from Germany from "Dauerwelle" started the Sunday program on KLAV 1230 AM. They did not last very long, and towards the latter part of 2002, Herbie Albinus took over the program without interruption. "I joined Herbie on the program along with Margaret Toler several times, which Herbie named Las Vegas German Show, but I was mostly in charge of the Sponsor Club to get financial support for the program. After 48 Sundays Herbie was transferred from his job to New York and put me on as the host. From then on I hosted the program with my co-host Frank Schleidt. Frank left the program after 350 broadcasts to help with his family business, the GW Schleidt Company. They were extremely supportive of the Las Vegas German Show by donating beautiful gift items for our raffles throughout the years. "We are always welcoming new Sponsor Club members and corporate sponsors to keep the Las Vegas German Show on the air. At 1184 broadcasts so far, we are the longest running ethnic radio show in Las Vegas history." by Silvia Brunn, Host of the Las Vegas German Show |
