Gov. Sisolak has loosened COVID restrictions to allow 35 percent capacity at restaurants and bars, which allows up to 44 members for Saturday night dinners at the club. We're hoping for 50 percent capacity by March 15 and full capacity by May 1, just in time for our Maifest celebration, which we sorely missed last year. So escape from your dungeon and come to the club for dinner, drinks and socialization of which we've been deprived for so long. We're also open for game night 5-9 p.m. Fridays.
![]() Come to the German Club on Sunday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. for the Super Bowl party, limited to 32 people by reservation only (702-649-8503). The game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs kicks off at 3:30 p.m., and it figures to be a barnburner matching future Hall of Fame QB Tom Brady in this 10th Super Bowl (six winners) against QB Patrick Mahomes, who was last year's Super Bowl MVP and the league's 2018 MVP. So come early, load up on Super Bowl contest squares and enjoy the game on our big-screen TVs. As always, refreshments will be served. Bring a potluck dish if you can. ![]() We are open under the following COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines: - 25% occupancy limit (32 people not counting workers) -No more than 4 people per table -Everyone must wear a mask unless sitting at table eating and drinking -Wash hands/sanitize frequently This isn't the German club's policy. This is the current government mandate, so don't argue with the cooks or bartender when they remind you to wear your mask. We have already been inspected once due to a complaint filed with the City of North Las Vegas that we were not in compliance. A city official inspected us and found that we were following the current mandates. So when someone reminds you to wear your mask properly or to put it on, don't make a scene and complain about it. We're trying to keep the club operational as we still have to pay bills, even when closed. Please be courteous when reminded to follow the guidelines as Big Brother could ring the doorbell at any time and inspect us again. This is the world we currently live in. ![]() The German-American Social Club of Nevada is opening at 25 percent capacity on Friday, Jan. 8, for card night (5-9 p.m.) and Saturday, Jan. 9, for dinner at 6 p.m. Cooks are needed. Continue to check Facebook and our website for updates and further events in January. There will be no January newsletter. A monthly calendar will be posted when it's completed. On Nov. 23, the board of directors held an emergency meeting to discuss the statewide “pause” due to COVID-19 pandemic increase in cases. It is with heavy heart that we made a unanimous decision to shut down the club for the remainder of 2020. All Christmas parties have been canceled starting with holiday decorating on Nov. 28. We are scheduled to reopen on Jan. 8. Please visit our Facebook page and website for further updates. In light of Gov. Steve Sisolak's directives issued earlier this week, the German-American Club will remain open, though scheduled events are subject to change. For example, Bavarian night (Nov. 21) has been postponed due to personal reasons for our cook, Silvia (pictured below). Those with prepaid reservations can request a refund or apply the payment to the tentative rescheduled date of Jan. 23. Chris has offered instead to make beef burgundy for Nov. 21, and the price will remain $15 for an excellent winter meal.
The golf tournament will be played Nov. 14, but awards and raffle prizes will be given on the course. Pork roast dinner by Art is still on at the club. We are cancelling live entertainment for the remainder of the year. If you're not feeling well, please stay home. If you want to support the club, we are offering dinners for pick-up. Continue to visit our Facebook page and website for further updates. "It may be slower than normal for the next couple of weeks, but I would rather the club make some money than spend $600 a week being totally closed," President Gary Blanton said. It's time for our annual memorial golf tournament. Unfortunately, we can't go to Laughlin this year due to the pandemic. So we're going to have an abbreviated tournament Saturday, Nov. 14, at Durango Hills Golf Club with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Sign-in at 7 a.m. Format will be 4-person team based on ability. The winner gets their name on the Bowman Clark trophy. We will also have our traditional putting contest.
Cost is $50 and all proceeds go to the club, which could certainly use a boost in revenue. There will also be raffles and prizes. We also have a package for nongolfers so you can support the club. Cost is $25 to sponsor a golf hole and receive an entry ticket for each raffle item. We won’t be able to group together, but we will have fun in spirit. We will be able to social distance with your own personal cart. Call or text Steve Oldham at 702-806-1294 to sign up. After 6 months of ordering pandemic restrictions, Gov. Sisolak allowed bars to reopen Sept. 21, which means we're back in business at the German-American Club. We're starting with card night on Sept. 25 and brat dinner with entertainment on Sept. 26. Limited to 50 members by reservation only. In other news, about 20 hard-working members dismantled the sheds and cleaned up the fire damage caused by transients who occupied our property during the shutdown. As if the coronavirus pandemic shutting down the club wasn't bad enough, we have to endure the passing of Erika Gries (center), club member since 1986 and "driving force" at the club, one member noted. We're not sure when we'll be able to reopen, but one of the first gatherings will be a memorial for Erika and Rita Taschner, who also passed during the pandemic. Let's pray for brighter days ahead. ![]() |
